In 1901 the Everett Theatre, designed by architect Charles
Bebb, opened as one of 12 theatres in the City of Everett. Everett
was the theatre center of the Northwest at that time. After a
fire destroyed most of the theatre in 1923. Only the north, east
and south walls were retained when it was rebuilt in 1924. The
newer design with buff brick and terra cotta was from architect
F. Leather. Several remodels including those in 1952 and 1979
followed, but it basically the 1924 building that stands at 2911
Colby Avenue today.
The Everett Theatre is a 106 year old historic theatre, fully
remodeled, with seating for 834, which produces and co-produces
contemporary and classic theatre, as well as, community events
and rentals. With a full schedule of productions and rentals
they provide a place for over 300 community volunteers to practice
their craft and to participate in all aspects of the theatre
experience.
The Everett Theatre is a vital piece of the arts revitalization
of the downtown Everett corridor including ArtSpace, the Explore
Children's Museum, and the upcoming County Museum at the Carnegie
Library Building. It is a busy, exciting place for the community
to gather, show their talent and volunteer their time. It is
on the Washington State Register of Historical Places. Shown
here in the 1920's courtesy the Everett Public Library. (Look
for more info about the Everett Theatre including a tour inside
during our Downtown Walking Tour on June 12th.)

Historic Everett
Theatre needs support to stay open
Tuesday, May 13, 2008
EVERETT -- The Everett Theatre is in the midst of a campaign
to raise $75,000. That's money the theater needs to get it through
the summer. But the big-picture reality is that without the money,
the 107-year-old theater will close.

EVERETT -- On the surface, the trash-strewn foot of Hewitt Avenue
near Port Gardner is too humdrum these days to attract much attention.
Yet if the red brick road there could talk, passersby would learn
the area holds a special place in Everett's history.
