Margaret Riddle Historic Preservation Scholarship

This new Historic Everett scholarship provides financial assistance and experiential learning opportunities to individuals from Snohomish County preparing for careers in historic preservation. Historic Everett is seeking applicants whose commitment to historic preservation will be strengthened by obtaining a formal education in a preservation-related field, who will benefit from the internship and mentorship opportunities provided by Historic Everett, and who will become leaders in the field of preservation.

The award
A financial award and an opportunity to volunteer with Historic Everett as an intern for three months following your first year of study.

Fields of study
Historic Preservation, or undergraduate or graduate programs in
departments of History, Architecture, American Studies, Urban Planning, Museum Studies, with a primary emphasis on Historic Preservation.

Preservation trades or related fields (carpentry, masonry) at a certified, certificate or degree granting institution.

Who is eligible
1. High school students in Snohomish County in their final year of high school intending to enroll in an eligible field of study.

2. Adult students (18 and over) from Snohomish County enrolled in or intending to enroll in an eligible field of study.

3. Students from Snohomish County in their final year of undergraduate study intending to enroll in a graduate program in historic preservation or eligible field of study.

4. Students from Snohomish County enrolled in or intending to pursue a preservation trade in a certifed program of study.

How to apply
Email or postmark applications by March 28. Historic Everett will contact selected candidates for phone interviews by April 15 and will announce the final selection May 15.

Candidates must fill out and return the application form, along with:

A. Two letters of recommendation

B. Academic transcripts from highest grade completed

C. Letter of acceptance to a college, university, or preservation-related trade school.

Our mission
The mission of Historic Everett is to preserve the heritage of the City of Everett through advocacy, education, and preservation.

Specifically, our goal is to engage in the preservation and rehabilitation of historic buildings, landscapes, architectural artifacts, and other cultural items that reflect the heritage of Everett, in addition to offering comprehensive preservation programming in order to educate our membership and our community.

Historic Everett has been dedicated to the preservation of Everett’s architectural heritage since 2002 and is a non-profit 501c3.

About Margaret Riddle
Margaret Riddle retired in 2008 after more than 30 years as Historian at the Everett Public Library. In the 1970s Margaret helped create the first surveys of Everett’s Historical Properties and served as staff for the first Everett Historical Commission. She received a William F. Brown Award in 2008 for a lifetime of achievements in historic preservation.
